How To Make Italian Peach Custard Dessert
Make the Custard Layer
Prepare a rich and aromatic custard by following the instructions for Neapolitan pastry cream. Transfer into a bowl, cover and allow to cool completely.
Prepare the Peaches Layer
Remove the skin from peaches and chop them into small pieces. Place the peaches in a saucepan with sugar and water (1), simmering over low heat for 10 minutes until tender with a thick, slightly darkened syrup forming (2). Drain peaches in a sieve to collect the juice (3).
Prepare the Amaretti Layer
Combine the peach juice with 8-12 crushed Amaretto cookies (4) for a creamy mixture (5).
Assemble the Italian Trifle
In 4 dessert glass bowls, layer the trifle as follows: a layer of Amaretti, followed by peaches (6), then custard (7). Repeat this sequence (8), ending with custard and sprinkling crumbled Amaretto cookies atop each glass (9).
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight before serving.
How to Store Custard Peach Trifle
After preparing the custard peach dessert, cover it tightly with plastic wrap or a lid to prevent air exposure. Place it in the refrigerator promptly.
If you plan to consume the trifle within 1–2 days, refrigeration is sufficient. Remember that the longer you keep it in the refrigerator, the more liquid released from the peaches may form. If you need to store the trifle for a longer period, consider assembling the components separately and only combining them before serving. This helps maintain the texture of each layer.
